Propecia and Finasteride

In the modern world of hair loss treatments, there are two products which stand above the rest: rogaine and Propecia. These popular products are popular hair loss remedies because they really work. rogaine is a topical treatment that is applied to the scalp, whereas Propecia is a drug that is taken orally.

What Is Propecia?
Propecia was originally called Finasteride, and is an oral treatment for hair loss that was discovered by accident during clinical trials. The original intent of the drug was to treat BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) or an enlarged prostate in older men. During the clinical trials of the drug, researchers noticed that men being treated with Finasteride either regrew hair in balding areas – or their previous hair loss suddenly halted. Merck was the company conducting the research, and they decided to continue their research into the effects of Finasteride.

After further study, Merck labs noticed that Finasteride was able to stop DHT from affecting the hair follicles in men who are genetically sensitive to hair loss. In addition, it seemed to cause regrowth of lost hair in a significant number of men during hair regrowth trials. They decided to release Finasteride as a hair regrowth product and renamed it Propecia. It was approved by the FDA for male pattern baldness, and released as a 1mg tablet to treat the condition.

How Much Does Propecia Cost?
A month of Merck-branded Propecia tablets cost about $200 per month. It is possible to find the generically manufactured products called Fincar and Finpecia sold by Cipla online. However, these versions of Propecia are not manufactured in the US, and do not have FDA approval. Be wary of buying Propecia knockoff versions online because you can never be quite sure how much genuine Finasteride is actually in the pills.

What Do Propecia Users Say About Their Results?
Some men using Propecia have seen some incredible results using a combination of 5% rogaine and 1MG of Propecia every day. There are many documented cases of men regrowing most, if not all, of their lost hair using these treatments. Keep in mind that using Propecia and rogaine is a lifetime commitment and expense. You have to keep using the drugs, or else the regrown hair will fall out after 12 months.

Propecia Side Effects
The two main Propecia side effects are both associated with hormone levels. The first is erectile dysfunction, which makes sexual performance difficult for some men for a few weeks. The second side effect is the possibility of developing gynecomastia. This is a hormonal imbalance which affects the glands in the chest, causing them to swell. The slang term for this condition is man boobs, and its actually a very rare condition. If this should occur, its recommend that you stop treatment for hair loss and stop taking the drugs. The condition will reverse itself naturally.

Finasteride and Pregnant Woman
It is not recommended that a man attempt to conceive a baby while he’s taking Propecia, or any drug containing Finasteride without seeking medical advice. Pregnant women should avoid Finasterid completely, and avoid touching the dust or fragments of any pills containing Finasteride. Even smallest dosage can cause major birth defects.

If used correctly, Propecia can be an effective treatment for hair loss in men. The combination of 5% rogaine and 1mg Propecia will give you the best possible results of all hair regrowth treatments available on the market.
